 3. Medical Clearance

Most passengers with a medical condition can fly with Air India. All you need to do is fill out the Medical Information Form (MEDIF) while booking your flight. In an Airplane the cabin air is compressed, and precautions should be taken if a passenger has breathing or heart disease.

Requirements of medical clearance

  • The passenger’s fitness to travel is doubtful due to recent illness, hospitalization, injury or surgery.
  • The passenger has an existing medical condition.
  • The passenger needs special services such as oxygen or medical equipment on board.
  • The passenger is flying for medical reasons or treatment.

4. Disability Assistance

If you need help getting around in the airport or during the flight, you can ask help. Special requests can be made by the passenger, their family, or a medical authority when making a booking.

Documents to be carried

  • An information sheet must be filled in containing all information on medical assistance required by the passenger. This must be done at the time of booking (agent’s office or airline office).
  • MEDIF form that is completed by the attending doctor. The form must be forwarded to Air India’s medical services department for clearance. After receiving consent to travel from the medical department and that of the other participating carriers, the booking will be facilitated, and PNR will be completed.
  • Passengers requiring a continuous oxygen supply will only be booked on short-haul, nonstop flights.

Passengers that require a wheelchair

If you need a wheelchair, you can let us know at the time of your reservation, ticketing, or reconfirmation of the booking.
